CAMARILLO, Calif. – Air Force Capt. Jonathan Joseph “JJ” Golden, a Camarillo native who died in an Afghanistan plane crash last month, will be honored in Santa Barbara this weekend for Veterans Day.

Golden, five other American airmen and five civilians were killed Oct. 2 when a cargo plane crashed during takeoff in Jalalabad. He will be honored at two events as part of the Pierre Claeyssens Veterans Foundation Veterans Day Weekend in Santa Barbara, organizers said.

The airman will be included in the invocation and The Missing Man ceremony at the annual military ball at 5 p.m. Saturday at The Fess Parker resort, 633 E. Cabrillo Blvd.

On Sunday, firefighters from Santa Barbara and Ventura counties will march in a parade in memory of Golden. The airman’s older brother, Jeff, is a Ventura County firefighter and will participate in the parade, event officials said.

The parade starts at noon Sunday at 1400 State St. and ends at 600 E. Cabrillo Blvd. The event is free.
