Running from Santa Ynez to Solvang on a 13.1-mile route, 3,000 runners participated in Saturday’s seventh annual Santa Barbara Wine Country Half-Marathon, presented by Subaru and produced by Destination Races.
Beginning on Sagunto Street in Santa Ynez, the circuit took runners through Los Olivos and ended in Solvang Park, the site of a wine and music festival.
A free race expo was held Friday at Hotel Corque in Solvang.
Annually, Destination Races partners with national, regional and local charity and nonprofit organizations and collectively the organizations have raised more than $5 million in support of their causes through the Wine Country Half-Marathon series.
Local charities include Foodbank of Santa Barbara County, Santa Ynez Valley Union High School, Chances for Children and the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). National beneficiaries include the Multiple Melanoma Research Foundation (MMRF) and the Lazarex Cancer Foundation.
The ASPCA and Subaru hosted a “Subaru Love a Pet” event at the finish line of the race. Runners and spectators had the opportunity to adopt an animal after the half-marathon.
