Local Senior Living Community Tackles National Blood Donation Shortage

Parsons House Preston Hollow hosts blood drive to encourage community members to donate and save lives

Preston Hollow, TX, April 19, 2011 – Due to the 2011 winter storms, 750 scheduled blood drives were forced to cancel, resulting in a national shortfall of more than 28,000 blood donations so far this year. Parsons House Preston Hollow, an assisted living and memory care community, encourages the Preston Hollow community to support those in dire need of these donations by giving blood on Friday, April 29th from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm at the Parsons House Preston Hollow Parking Lot, 4205 West Northwest Highway, Dallas 75220.

“Parsons House Preston Hollow staff and residents are committed to supporting the needs of our community and nation,” said Cynthia Filpansick, Executive Director of Parsons House Preston Hollow. “By taking about twenty minutes out of their day, community members can save lives both locally and nationally.”

Although 60% of the nation’s population is eligible to donate, only 2.5% donate on a routine basis. Cancer patients are often the first affected by blood donation shortages.

  • Blood donors will be offered free snacks, T-Shirts, refreshments and a tour of the Parsons House Preston Hollow community.
  • Individuals who are 18 years of age (17 with parental permission), meet weight and height requirements (110 pounds or more, depending on height) and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Please bring your donor card or other form of ID when you come to donate.
  • To reserve a 20-minute time slot or for further information, please call 214-357-7900.
