Staff and board members from Santa Barbara’s two hospice organizations -Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care and Hospice of Santa Barbara – came together for a joint mixer Thursday, July 23, outside of HSB’s Alameda Padre Serra headquarters.
The crowd included board members and personnel who provide medical, emotional, social, spiritual and practical support from the two hospice organizations, which each plays a unique role in the community. VNHC follows a medical hospice model and focuses on relieving physical pain associated with end of life. HSB meanwhile is a volunteer hospice organization that focuses on the physical, emotional and spiritual suffering of those impacted by serious illness or grieving the death of a loved one.
The two nonprofits regularly pass cases back and forth to each other in this continuum of care, making it seamless to the patient and their family. The two organizations are hoping this will be the first of many joint mixers.
