Student’s volunteer work gets recognition

A soon-to-be Sahuaro High School senior has been honored for her 250-plus hours of volunteer service.

Marisa Halfmann was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service award last month in Kansas City, Mo., at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference.

The award was created by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to recognize volunteers.

Halfmann performed the majority of her service hours at Hundred Palms Tucson, an assisted living and memory care community for senior citizens.

She helps run the senior-activities program on the weekends and also assists with clerical work.
